Anna Kendrick makes notable career change with new movie

Anna Kendrick is making a big move in her career with the news that she is set to make her directorial debut with the upcoming movie The Dating Game.

The Dating Game follows the true story of Cheryl Bradshaw, who appeared on the 1970s dating show The Dating Game and matched with a charming man named Rodney Alcala. However, Alcala was actually a serial killer.

Kendrick will star in the movie as the lead character as well as produce and direct, while the script was on the Black List and is written by Ian MacAllister McDonald. In a statement about the news, Kendrick said she fell in love with the script immediately.

“While I was obviously thrilled to be playing the character of Cheryl, I felt so connected to the story, the tone, and the themes around gender and intimacy, that when the opportunity came up to direct the film, I jumped at it,” Kendrick said.

“It feels meant to be. The support I’ve received already from Stuart Ford and everyone at AGC, Vertigo and BoulderLight has been inspiring and empowering.”

While this is Kendrick’s directorial debut, she has produced before with her production company Let’s Go Again, whose projects include HBO Max series Love Life and Netflix’s Stowaway. She will also star in Alice, Darling, which will soon have its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
